Ovilus X
The Ovilus, or Puck, is an electronic speech-synthesis device which utters words depending on electromagnetic waves in the air, by using an EMF Meter. The device was created by Bill Chappell, a retired electronics engineer interested in the paranormalwho creates devices for the field. Overview The Ovilus has an embedded database of words. It contains an EMF Meter. These readings are combined to create a number, and this number is used to reference the database of words. The Ovilus then "speaks" that word. An Ovilus can also operate in aphonetic mode that reacts to EMF variations to create words that are not in the database. There are other types of the Ovilus device, including the Paranormal Puck, Video Ovilus, Ovilus I, Ovilus II, Ovilus FX, Ovilus X (pictured above right), Talker, and The PX. Claims Ovilus is marketed as an entertainment device. It is used by many paranormal groups and has been used on Paranormal State(Season 2 Episode 6, "Hells Gate"). During this episode, the device is explained and given a few minutes of air time. A variation of the Ovilus, Video Ovilus, one with a built-in night-vision video camera, can be seen on Ghost Adventures in several episodes. Paranormal aficionados claim the device is a conduit to allow communication with spirits. The manufacturer does not claim that the device allows communication with the dead. Reviews have been mixed. Negative reviews Due to the random nature of the replies, many paranormal research groups have stopped using the Ovilus because too much is left to chance. It is posited that a person could pull random words out of a hat and get the same response as what comes out of the Ovilus. Many liken it to an electronic 8 Ball or Ouija Board. Positive reviews Despite the label that says, "For Entertainment Purpose Only", the device is still used today in paranormal research. Groups claim that it has replied with very accurate words relating directly to the case they were investigating. Odds From the maker's website, the odds of actually getting a response that is related to the question a person asked are one of the following: 1:512 (Ovilus I), 1:1024 (Ovilus FX/Video Ovilus), 1:2048 (PX), or 1:2048+,- (Ovilus II/Ovilus X, due to their user-changeable dictionaries). There are anywhere from 512 words to over 2048 in the database, depending on the type of Ovilus that is used, so basically you have an even shot to get a response that fits in a contextually accurate fashion. There is also a mode called "Phonetic mode". Within this mode, words can be put together that are not in the list of words listed above. According to the owner, complete sentences are possible, but not a feature of the device. In Phonetic mode, the odds of a related response are 1:71, the phonetic generator carries those same 1:71 odds no matter what model of Ovilus is used. As an EMF meter The devices contain several LED lights that correspond to the level of EMF in the room. The manufacturer states that this meter is not an average sampling but a real time sample. This meter should not replace a device that is a dedicated EMF Meter. There is no evidence that EMF meters have any efficacy in detecting ghosts or other supernatural entities. Television The Ovilus is mentioned by name on several television series including; Ghost Adventures, Paranormal Challenge, Paranormal State, The Haunted, and Celebrity Ghost Hunt. Downing Rods
Steps
1. Obtain A Pair Of Downing Rods
  • Find a forked ("Y"-shaped) branch from a tree or bush. Hold the two ends on the forked side, one in each hand. You may want to experiment with holding it with your palms facing up or down; one may be more effective than the other. Hazel or willow branches were commonly used because they were light and porous, and were believed to better absorb vapors rising from buried metals or water, thus weighing down the unforked end and pointing towards the source.
Bend two identical pieces of wire into an "L" shapeand hold one in each hand by the short part of the "L" so that the long part is parallel with the ground and so they can swing freely from side to side. You can use coat hangers to make these rods. Some dowsers claim certain metals, such as brass, to be more effective.
    • Make a pendulum by suspending a weight (such as a stone or crystal) by a string or chain. Pendulums are used with maps or to answer yes/no questions, rather than to guide the dowser on unfamiliar terrain; instructions for using a pendulum are given in a separate section below.
  1. Relax. Whether you're priming yourself to receive paranormal insight, or you're relaxing your muscles so they can better transmit the ideomotor effect, or you're just experimenting with this for fun, relaxing will make it a more effective or enjoyable experience. Take a few deep breaths or meditate for a minute or two.
  2. Calibrate your dowsing rod(s). Lay out cards numbered 1-5 face up and in a line with about 1-2 feet (1/2 meter) of separation between each card. Start at one end, holding your dowsing rod(s), and make a request, like "Show me where the card labeled 4 is". Close your eyes and visualize the card you want the rod(s) to find for you. Then open your eyes and walk slowly next to the line of cards with your dowsing rod(s) over them, pausing over each one, and see what happens when you go over the card you requested. You may find that the wooden rod points downward, or the metal rods cross each other.
  3. Test your dowsing abilities. Repeat the previous step, but this time, shuffle the cards and put them on the ground facing down, so you don't know which is which. Make your request and see if you can correctly identify the card you requested by dowsing. If you can't, either you're a bad dowser (you're not focused or relaxed enough, you're psychically challenged, you're holding the rod(s) incorrectly, or you're too skeptical to allow dowsing to work for you) or dowsing is nothing more than superstition punctuated by coincidence. You decide.
OR TRY

Pendulum Dowsing

  1. Calibrate the pendulum. Hold it perfectly still over a bare surface, then ask a specific question to which you know the answer is "yes". Does it go in a circle (if so, clockwise or counter-clockwise?), swing right to left, or swing up and down? This is your "yes" answer. Repeat to find a "no" answer. If your goal is to find a lost person or object, hold the pendulum over a picture of that person or object and see what the pendulum does.
  2. Hold the pendulum over an object or person and make a request. The simplest way to use a pendulum is to ask a specific, yes or no question and see what the pendulum does. A dowsing pendulum can also be used in other ways:
    • For map dowsing, hold the pendulum still over the map and make a request (e.g. "Show me where this object or person is"). Move the pendulum slowly over all areas of the map until you see activity that coincides with your calibration. An alternative to this is is to hold your pendulum in your 'dominant' hand & use a pencil, pen, or other pointed object in your other hand to navigate over the map or chart, seeking activity. This type of dowsing was used by the German Navy in Nazi Germany.
    • Write several answers on a piece of paper, leaving the center blank. Hold the pendulum over the center and ask a question. Watch the pendulum carefully to see in which direction it swings. Which answer does it point to? (This is similar to using an(ouija board.)
    • Radiesthesia is the practice of using dowsing to make a medical diagnosis. A common technique is to hold the pendulum over a pregnant woman's stomach to identify the gender of the child. It's not wise, however, to depend solely on a pendulum for medical advice.

PX Device

The PX has only one control the mode switch locate on the left of the device.  When switching modes hold the mode switch down till the lights change and the PX announces the next mode of  operation.   The Modes are: 1:  Dictionary Mode the PX has 2048 internal words that are used in this mode 2:  Phonetic Mode the PX will use phonemes to speak 3.  Reverse Phonetic Mode The PX will reverse the phonetic output in effect it talks backwards 4.  Touch Mode this mode is used to detect if the device is being touched 5.  Voice Change Mode, this mode is the same as #1 dictionary mode except the voice can be altered detected inputs 6.  Repeat Mode say last words said .. in this mode the PX will repeat the last words spoke from last said to  first up to 400 words. 7.  Energy Mode : this mode allows the user to set the sensitivity of the device with one of 3 preset levels. The PX will say LOW then give four beeps pressing mode during this time will set the Energy level low The PX has and Audio output jack for Amplified speaker  or Recirder output.   The PX shipped with a 2048 word vocabulary twice the original design amount this "firmware" Equipped with an internal  speaker the PX also has an external audio jack as well. This  jack is for Amplified speakers   The PX voice is driven by a speech synthesizer.  Powered by two AA batteries We recommend Lithium ion batteries .  The Heart of the PX is a Microprocessor  running at 16 MHz . The Internal speaker is Mylar to be moisture resistant.   Features: 2048 word vocabulary: Speech, with the ability to alter the Pitch Timber and tempo via computer software. Built in EEprom stores up to 400 words,  spoken in the dictionary mode. External Audio for amplified speakers. RS-232 for remote control and additional software functions and features. Using the PX, before you turn it on make sure you have installed the batteries correctly. Turn on the PX about 1 second will pass the PX will flash all the lights in sequence then in groups of two. You will then here "Dictionary Mode" and the PX is running .... You will note the first led may flash But no speech is heard. The PX is sampling  depending on the energy mode selected  the PX may talk right a way or even sit quiet for extended periods of time.   In the Dictionary Mode every word said is also saved  up to the last 400 words may be replayed in the "Say all words Spoken Mode".   Mode 2 : Phonetic Speech Mode,  from the first mode simply depress  the Mode switch till the PX announces " Phonetic Mode".  In  the Phonetic mode the PX creates strings of phonemes the basic Individual sounds that makeup human speech.   It's not unusual for the PX to create these phonetic Sounds no stop for several minutes before settling down, you may want to change the energy mode The PX is set in to create the desired result. Mode 3:  Reverse Phonetic mode,   based on mode 2 this mode takes the last 10 phonemes produces and speaks the in reverse order.  Much like using software to reverse an EVP. Mode 4:  Touch Mode, typically use this mode in Mid or High energy settings enter this mode and set the PX down.  It will begin to make a PING sound like sonar. It make take a few minutes for it to calm down and stop PINGING . the Idea is to see if the device gets triggered giving off the PING sound  The longer it's triggered the closer the PING sounds will be together. Mode 5:  Voice Change Mode, this is Dictionary mode with a couple of special sequences added When running in this mode the PX may change it's Voice Speed and Pitch. Mode 6:  In this mode the PX will start saying every word it has spoken "up to 400 words" Form the time it was turned on. It will start by saying the last word spoken  prior to entering this mode.   Mode 7:  Energy Mode, this mode allows you to change the sensitivity of the device  First it will say "LOW" then beep  and flash the first LED on the PX .  It will Beep four times if you press the Mode Switch the  PX will return to dictionary mode set in the LOW energy mode.  Next the PX will say "MID" And begin the same beep and flash Press mode now and the PX will run in the MID energy setting. The Last prompt in the mode is "HIGH" and again four Beeps press mode now and your set to the High energy mode. If you do not want to change modes simple allow the PX to finish the 3 mode and beep sequences It will the return to the dictionary mode on it's own without changing the energy settings.Energy Speaker

It's really about making noise "You can't hear"

So what is an ES .... simply its a speaker that doesn't create sound .. instead it creates sound as a magnetic field. Several years ago we began experimenting with ways to create EVP. One of the most common held Idea's is simple modulation of a magnetic field inducing a signal into system electronics. The ES can turn any portable electronic device like a MP3 player, Recorded or even ipod or Cell phone into a magnetic broadcast system. Why ? Well It's commonly held that a great deal of Paranormal Activity is related to EMF. So why not broadcast trigger music in an audio format as a magnetic wave rather than sound. With the ES your next EVP session can have full time trigger music playing with out disturbing the audio EVP recordings. The hope is this type of device will encourage more experiments. For example: Broadcast white noise while during an EVP session. Broadcast specific tones and frequencies to see what the effects are. Send out Voice commands via the system to trigger an emf meter or  move an object. "Eliminating the Human effect on the test" Set up a Non human test using camera's, ES and EMF meters.... Using a simple Wye audio adapter the audio signal could be recorded by the video camera and the whole result would be free of audio contamination. The ES is small, light and powers from the speaker output of your electronic device No flashing lights, No Noise contamination .... Something New ! Simple to use: Plug the ES into your portable device earphone jack or audio jack. Turn the device on and the audio will be converted to a magnetic audio format. How do you test it ... place an emf meter on the ES to see the field is being created or use an Inductive probe or an inductor plugged into an reorder. A device for the Serious Investigator Works With your portable audio equipment changing sound into a magnetic field

ES Energy Speaker by Digital Dowsing

The ES following in the work we've done with the R.EVP "Reverse EVP" From the inductive Transmitter used by Ghost Adventures to the ES "Energy Speakers" It's time to start doing repeatable tests and change the way we look for EVP and Paranormal Experiences
EM Pump
The EM pump creates a high or low level (depending on the design and the device you use) magnetic field. It is like a magnetic white noise.
Paranormal investigators can use the EM pump to create energy for spirits so they can manifest and/or speak.
It is believed that spirits require a lot of energy in order to manifest or communicate.
Using an EM Pump has it's pros and cons.
It could help cut down on battery drain and help capture better evidence and it can damage your EMF meter if you use the meter to close to the EM pump.
To keep your investigations safe set your device down before you turn it on and stand back a bit, at least 12 inches. Better to be safe then sorry.
EM Vortex
The EM Vortex is the next generation of the em pump. This multi coil device creates a rotating field from 2 hz to 24 hz and has clockwise and counterclockwise switching capability. It is a EMF white noise generator . The theory on the use of this device is that it creates energy for a spirit to utilize and produce evidence.

ThermaSound
As Seen on Ghost Adventures 2011 This is a Thermal and Ultrasonic device that creates a double Histogram Showing Distance and Temperature of objects in a room.
GEO PHONE
The Geo Phone is pretty handy. It senses even the slightest vibrations from around it, which vary from the make and model you have. Some have lights, others have beeping alarms which go off  from vibrations on the surface the Geo Phone is placed on. The vibrations can be high or low depending on the level of ground disturbance.
Negative Ion Generator
Another device that is said to have similar capabilities to the EMF Pump is the Negative Ion Generator/ Air Ionizer. This device emits negative ions externally which are supposed to balance the air and have been said to assist in approving the mood and health of individuals. This device can increase static electricity and relate to EM output as well. Paranormal investigators can use the device to increase the energy in the air which can provide a potential environment for spirit manifestation. At this time STPI does not use either of these devices, but we are interested in testing them out. The devices are fairly new to the paranormal research field and still require testing. On the internet the Negative Ion Generator is available for purchase.
Parabolic Microphones
Parabolic Microphones are microphones equipped with a parabolic dish. This creates a circular environment around the microphone and when pointed in any direction can amplify the sounds picked up over longer distances. This also creates a more sensitive microphone. Some paranormal teams use parabolic microphones when holding EVP sessions. This is just another tool that when paired with a digital recording device can increase the potential for catching EVP's.
